The AQA exam has two papers:

The IB board has discontinued with Mathematical Studies course. Hence, (1) and (2) now will have two levels each namely Higher and Standard level. 

In Dubai, the IB Math Analysis & Approaches (AA) HL is gaining popularity due to its content and scope. The chances of acceptance into reputed universities are higher with this course (IB Math AA HL). Hence, a comprehensive study is required to crack this exam and score maximum grades not only in the finals but also in the school tests and mocks. The students need to score consistently in the school tests/mocks so as to maximize their predicted scores. The predicted scores are important for University admissions. 

At Gore's, the tutoring for IB Math AA HL is designed as per the latest IB specifications guidelines. Broadly speaking, the course has five major topics: Number & Algebra, Functions, Geometry& Trigonometry, Probability & Statistics and Calculus.

The Exam format of IB Math AA HL: 3 exam papers comprising of Paper 1 (Non Calculator), and Paper 2 & 3 (Calculator) + Math Exploration. The exam papers account for 80% of the final grade. Math exploration accounts for 20 % of the final grade. 

We will be covering all the topics that are specified in IB specifications both for exam papers as well as for the IB Math exploration. Mr. Vikram and his team of tutors have prepared a large repository of exam style questions for each topic outlined in the IB syllabus. 

The IB Math AA HL syllabus will be covered with concept - basic questions - exam style questions - real world applications-problem solving format. Each concept needs detailed explanation. Following the explanation, the tutors will provide drill sheet with basic questions.

Once the basic questions have been answered, Mr. Vikram's IB Math AA HL exam worksheets will be provided. These worksheets have exam style questions that have been modeled along the new pattern. After the exam style questions are done 75 % of the concept is covered. The other 25% is Real world applications / Problem solving questions using the concepts that have been covered earlier. The target is to cover content specific to Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3 comprehensively.

The classes are in small groups led by Mr. Vikram and his team of tutors based in Dubai.  Mr. Vikram has developed the expertise of teaching in small groups over the last 16 years. The student gets the feel of one to one tutoring even though he/she is in a group.

This is done by the task splitting technique. Ideally, an experienced teacher takes 10 minutes to explain one concept. Once the concept is explained / taught, a worksheet that contains large number of questions on that concept are given to the student. 

We have a large repository of questions developed over 16 years! As the student does the practice, another trained teacher keeps watch on the working and provides assistance or explanation as the student solves. Hence, at any given point of time there is always a teacher available for every student in the group!

Before a batch is finalized, Mr. Vikram and his team will assess the student. Based on the assessment, the academic level (deficient areas, strengths etc) is ascertained. The test generally takes anywhere between 20 minutes to 1 hour. There is no score or grade provided. The test is for internal evaluation purposes only.

We would also require parents to provide us with school reports, portion papers (topics that are covered in the school), any past exam/ answer papers (if any), additional remarks made by schoolteacher or his math tutor.

IB MATHEMATICS STANDARD LEVEL ANALYSIS—APPROACHES private tutor JLT Dubai

The IB Math Analysis Standard level (SL) calculus portion is the most important part in the new specification (2019 IB syllabus). The Calculus portion is divided into Differential Calculus and Integral Calculus. Mr. Vikram has outlined the tutoring plan that will be followed at Gore’s Tutoring Dubai for Calculus lessons.

The Differential Calculus is divided into 4 parts:

1)  Basic Differentiation that includes introduction to differential calculus with topics such as rates of change, instantaneous rates of change, limits, gradient of tangent, derivative function, first principles etc Mr. Vikram has made videos and presentations for these topics besides classroom learning sessions so that students get the real idea of what differentiation actually means!

2)  In the second part, the students learn rules of differentiation that include basic rule, chain, product, and quotient rules. The students then learn derivatives of exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric functions and apply these rules in solving questions that contain these functions. The students are also introduced the second derivative and its significance in this part.

3)  In the third part, we will focus on the properties of curve and learn how to apply differentiation for tangents, normal, increasing / decreasing functions, stationary points, shape, inflection points, learning how to solve different function questions from IB exam style questions.

4) In this final part of differentiation, we look at applying differential calculus to real world applications. Basically, the students will cover Rates of change and Optimization topics in this part.

The Integral Calculus portion is divided into parts:

1) Introduction to integration: basic idea of area under the curve using the idea of limits, Riemann sums/ integral, idea of integration being anti-differentiation, understanding Fundamental theorem of Calculus.

2)  In the second part, students will learn the techniques of integration that include rules, particular values (understanding Ln IxI + c), integrating f(ax+b) types, integration by substitution. This section has lot of questions that every student needs to attempt especially the “integration by substitution” topic. This topic needs more practice on the part of the students. We have prepared IB exam style questions on this topic. There will be a separate test on this topic prepared by Mr. Vikram.

3) The next part is the Definite Integrals that include the areas under and above the curves, Area between two functions, problem solving using integration. Mr. Vikram has prepared separate worksheets as well as drills for each of these topics.

Please note: After these 3 sections, a test will be administered and marked by Gore’s tutors. Feedback will be sent to the parents.

FINAL PART: After completing the 4 parts in Differentiation and 3 parts in Integration, we then move to the final part that involves using both the differentiation and integration in solving problems in Kinematics. The questions revolve around Displacement, Velocity, speed, acceleration etc. Questions involve graphs, understanding the difference between velocity and speed, Displacement and Distance. Mr. Vikram will give brief introduction of Physics concepts (GCSE / year 10 level) to the students before they start learning these topics.

After this section, we will be handing out Home Assignments / worksheets for Kinematics. These worksheets will be marked and evaluation will be done by Mr. Vikram. He may suggest remedial lessons in case the student does not perform optimally.

IB Mathematics Analysis& Approaches AA Higher Level (HL) private tutors-lessons-classes

The IB Math HL Analysis course has five key areas of mathematics namely: Numbers & Algebra, Functions, Geometry & Trigonometry, Statistics & Probability, and Calculus.

The course aims to enable students to recall and apply mathematical concepts, techniques to real and abstract world and solve problems. Accurate communication of mathematical ideas to solve problems and extensive use of technology are also incorporated in this new specification. Students have to investigate unfamiliar situations, make conjectures, test and validate these and also construct mathematical arguments.

The course has three papers that include one non-calculator paper. The students also have to complete Internal Assessment (IA) through a written mathematical exploration. The written papers have a weightage of 80% (three papers) + 20% for Internal Assessment (IA).

At Gore's Tutoring Dubai, the IB Math Analysis (HL / SL) classes are offered in three stages: Concepts, Practice and Assessment.  We also guide students in their Internal Assessments (IA).  The students also get hands on training on use of technology (Graphic Calculators).
