- Major changes in IB Mathematics syllabus from 2025!!
Students appearing for the IB Maths AA & AI exams in 2027 must read this carefully. There are some major changes in the exam question patterns for the 2027 exam.
Those students who are in the IB DP 1 i.e September 2025 batch for IB Math AA HL must note that the calculus topic has undergone some changes especially the "Differential Equations" topic. The IB Exam questions would now focus more on proofs and theorems.
For the IB Math AI HL students of IB DP 1 (September 2025 batch), the content would now focus on advanced probability and modelling as well as indepth study of data analysis related tasks. The board has included Monte Carlo simulation in the new syllabus for AI HL for 2027 exams.
IB Math AA SL syllabus is more or less unchanged except addition of Vector Calculus. Students are encouraged to focus more on core calculus concepts.

For the IB Math AI SL, the board has now made Regression analysis, Chi Square Testing and Statistical modelling as core concepts. The exam papers will likely be rich in data and interpreting real life situations (Scenario based) and solving them.
HL Math students must focus more on proofs and mathematical modelling. Both HL and SL students must be well versed in use of GDCs, Spreadsheets and programming logic similar to Python.
IA (Internal Assessment) would continue to have 20% weightage. But the new criteria suggests a deeper focus on Personal engagement and reflection. As usual, the IA should be around 12 pages.
